Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2015

EventsKatie

World Breastfeeding Week 2015 starts today!

Through August 7th, organizations around the world will be campaigning to support breastfeeding mothers. This year's theme focuses on working women, and empowering her and her baby's right to breastfeed.

The World Alliance For Breastfeeding Action calls for:

  • concerted global action to support women to combine breastfeeding and work, whether in the formal sector, non-formal sector, or at home
  • ratification and implementation of maternity protection laws and regulations by governments, in line with the ILO Maternity Protection Convention
  • inclusion of breastfeeding target indicators in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The World Health Organization has set a goal for a 50% increase in the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months by 2025. Learn more here
